the corner storeA little blue brick with a big story.
Before we share the story of this building, we want you to know one thing:
This space was made for your moments.
Whatever you're planning, a wedding, a celebration, a shoot, a gathering, when you walk through that door, you will feel it. The light. The warmth. The sense that this place has been held with care. That's not accidental. It's entirely intentional. And it begins with a story.
helloI'm Jo, the founder of The Corner Store.
I grew up just down the road from this little blue brick building. My Ma lived nearby, my grandmother, who I absolutely adored and chose to spend every spare second with.
She used to say to me, "Jo… such a little name for such a person."
A nod to our shared favourite novel, Little Women. I always smiled at that. And somehow, I think this little corner store is the same.
We'd often walk up to it together. Sometimes she'd send me on my own for bread and milk, coins wrapped carefully in one of her beautifully embroidered hankies. I still remember the lovely old man behind the counter. The lollies. And the best potato scallops. It was never just a shop. It was part of our family rhythm.
THE JOURNEYOver the years, the building changed hands many times.
It became a folk club, a yoga studio, an art space, red velvet curtains, rainbow murals, paint splatters, guitars leaning in corners.
And then in 2022, I saw it come up for sale. It sold instantly. What followed was a year of quietly but unwaveringly holding a vision. Of not letting it go. Of gently but persistently knocking on the door, until one day, it was mine.
Every lick of paint was done by me, by my incredible family, and by local trades we are so lucky to have. So many generous hands helped bring this space back to life. We opened with a Cake + Sip event, cake being quite literally one of my most favourite things ever. I will never forget the feeling of opening those doors that day.
I share all of this because I want you to understand something important:
When you book this space, you are not just booking a venue or hiring a hall.
You are stepping into a place that has been held with love, restored with intention, and opened with the specific belief that your most meaningful moments deserve to be everything and more.
I am also a nervous system first therapist. The same care, the same deep listening, the same attention to how an experience feels, as well as how it looks, is something I bring to every single booking.
I take the time to understand what you're planning. I personalise every experience. I am with you in it, from the very first message to the moment your guests walk through the door.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOUYour story becomes part of this one. Your special becomes my special.
THE BELIEFOne thing has stayed unwavering through all of it:
Your most meaningful moments deserve to be everything and more.
The long tables where conversations stretch for hours. The quiet before guests arrive. The grandmother at the end of the table. The bride who didn't want a ballroom, just her people. The photographer who wants a space that moves with the light.
This is the very stuff that means everything.
